Our partners in Cambodia
Our highly qualified partner factories in Cambodia employ around 600 people, many of whom are physically disabled. We are proud that one of our partners was awarded a UNESCO award for its outstanding craftsmanship in 2004.
One of our factories was founded in 2002 by two Cambodian exiles who had fled to New Zealand during the Khmer Rouge terror regime. There they studied textile design, among other things, and later taught at universities in New Zealand and Australia. But the thought of helping their country and creating employment opportunities for landmine victims alone prompted them to return to Cambodia and set up the factory.
Our second production facility has developed from a Christian NGO and employs a significant number of people with physical disabilities. As a proud member of the World Fair Trade Organization, this partner company produces our upcycled bags and backpacks mainly in Phnom Penh, but also in the provinces of Cambodia.

On our website we want to show you transparently that our Beadbags Ocean bags & backpacks are not only visually appealing, but are also manufactured sustainably and responsibly. They are manufactured in a SEDEX and BSCI certified facility in China, a country that has taken on a leading role in the reprocessing of plastic thanks to decades of experience in recycling plastic from Europe. China has developed some of the most efficient recycling techniques in the world, as it was the largest importer of plastic waste in the past and uses this expertise specifically for innovative recycling methods.
Real Impact
The outer fabrics of our Beadbags Ocean products are made from 50% recycled Ocean Bound Plastic, which is collected by the Plastic Bank , and 50% recycled PET bottles. Ocean Bound Plastic refers to plastic that is collected on coasts and near the sea before it can reach the oceans. By cooperating with the Plastic Bank, we are not only helping to prevent plastic waste in the oceans, but are also supporting local communities in countries like Thailand.
The Plastic Bank ensures transparency and traceability of the material. It guarantees that the entire process is documented in a comprehensible and reliable manner, which gives you as a customer the security of purchasing an authentically sustainable product.
